Catch Up

Well, now, it’s been about 2 weeks since my last blog. I blame my love of reading. I have been totally hooked on a new series of books I’ve discovered and can’t put them down. I’m not going to tell you what they are, though, because I can’t in good conscience recommend them. If I knew then what I know now, I would have passed, but it’s too late, I’m hooked. Therefore, all of my free time has been spent reading instead of other worthy pursuits. Hmmm.

We had our first (and probably only) snowfall of the year. The kids were excited to wake up to snow. Their school had a two hour delay, so they even had time to play in it. By the time they left for school, though, it was already raining!
As you know, Dean had entered a contest that would take him to the North Pole Marathon in April. Sadly, he did not win, but hopes to maybe find a sponsor and go next year. We’ll see. Last weekend he ran the Myrtle Beach Marathon with a time of 3:28, a personal record. Even so, he believes his weakness is an undisciplined mind. (something I can hardly believe, if his mind is undisciplined, mine must be jello!) Anywho, he has decided to run another marathon this weekend, yes, one week later. He will be running the Black Mountain Marathon. It is a trail marathon through the mountains complete with wild cats and bears and all sorts of good stuff! The first half is straight up, the second is down. Yeah, I’m currently looking into local mental institutions for him.

Valentine’s Day was very nice. We were able to cash in on some free babysitting we traded for, too! We went to Carraba’s for dinner followed by a movie. We went to see ‘Dreamgirls’. Jennifer Hudson won a Grammy for best supporting actress and is nominated for an Oscar with high hopes of winning. She was on American Idol a couple years ago and Dean and I love that show, so we were curious to see how she did. She was fabulous! We were very impressed with her performance. The movie itself, was a bit depressing, though. Speaking of American Idol, my current favorite this season is Chris Sligh. Also, even though he says he is from Greenville, SC, I’m told he currently lives here in Columbia, so that’s cool. I’m also told that he is in a local band that has performed at my church. So, now I have all those reasons to like him! Go Chris!

Have a great week!

Alice Elizabeth Fuller 1913-2007

My Grammy passed away last week. She was 93 years old. She was a kind, sweet, graceful, classy lady. She was a faithful wife and loving mother/grandmother. She was beautiful. My husband says if I look like her as I grow older, he’ll be a happy man! She had a great sense of humor, too! I am so thankful my sisters and I were able to visit her for her birthday back in November. My parents were with her for Christmas, and her son was with her for New Year’s Day. She loved having her family with her. She had a stroke but went very peacefully. She read her bible daily, and the last verse she read the night before she passed was, “For this is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end. Psalm 48:14-15.” We will miss her, but only for a season. We rejoice that she is reuniting with her husband (Arnold Fuller, my Grampy, whom she has been without for 17 years) and her savior Jesus.

Fun fact about my grammy: She was the captain of her high school basketball team!
